Food Drive

Food Bank Thank You cardDear Residents of Sabino Springs,

After a brief hiatus the Sabino Springs Community Food Drive was reinstated on Saturday November 6th. The event was a success with 12 cartons of food and over S3,700 in cash and checks. This translates into over 15,000 meals for the hungry in our community. I wish to thank you who donated and helped to make this year’s drive a positive accomplishment.  I was especially touched by the nine-year-old daughter of a neighbor who, after understanding the mission of the Food Bank, donated her ‘birthday money’ to help the needy.

The Sabino Springs contribution will assist the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona to help those less fortunate by providing food boxes to low-income families and the working poor, meal preparation for the hungry and homeless and ensure quality food for the deserving children of our area.

The Community Food Bank, a nonprofit 501(c3) charity, spends more than 96% of its contributions on the programs and services it delivers, earning the highest ratings from Charity Navigator. They have been recognized by the Feeding American Network as the 2018 Food Bank Member of the Year. We all should be pleased that the community of Sabino Springs supports such a worthy organization.

Once again, I wish to thank the kind residents of Sabino Springs for your donations and participation in this endeavor. With your generous support we can look forward to even greater success in the future,

Sincerely yours,
Jeffrey Lerbs

11th Annual Food Drive
Date: Saturday November 6, 2021
Time: 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM
Place: 5164 N Fairway Spring Drive
To Benefit: The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona

Dear residents of Sabino Springs,

This year is a our 11th year sponsoring a food drive for the benefit of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona. With your help, Sabino Springs can make a difference for many needy families, seniors and children. We, who have so much to be thankful for, can change lives by building a healthy, hunger-free community.

There are three ways to contribute:

  • Drop off your donated food items at 5164 N Fairway Spring Drive between 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM on November 10th.
  • Cash or check. Drop off or mail to the address above. Make the check payable to The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.
  • Make a donation online at the Community Food Bank  website. In the comment field, indicate that the donation is part of the Sabino Springs Food Drive 2021.

Please be generous. For every $2 donated, 7 meals are provided to those in need. The CFB can purchase from suppliers at cost and with the opportunity to buy perishable items such as milk, butter, and vegetables.

Donated food must be non-perishable.  Consider foods that can contribute to a healthy meal, instead of snacks or desserts, such as the following items:

  • Canned chicken or fish in water
  • Dry or canned beans
  • Peanut butter
  • Canned vegetables
  • Soups or stews
  • Whole grain pasta
  • Brown and wild rice
  • Oatmeal
  • High fiber breakfast cereals
  • Canned fruit in water or juice instead of syrup
  • Unsalted almonds
  • Dried fruit
  • Natural applesauce
  • 100% juice

Other considerations:

  • Look for items labeled low sodium, low fat, no added salt, no added sugar, high fiber, or whole grain.
  • Please be sure not to donate food in rusted, dented, or leaking containers.
  • All food items must include the product name. No unidentifiable bags or cans can be used.
  • Non-perishable food in plastic, cardboard or cans works best for transporting. Glass can easily be broken.
  • Perishable items cannot be accepted due to FDA regulations on temperature control.
  • Home-made items such as canned jams and sauces cannot be accepted.

Additional volunteers are welcome.  There will be coffee, tea, donuts, etc. for those who want to stop and chat.  It’s a nice way to meet the neighbors.
